I have the privilege to lead the awesome team of support professionals, IT product owners, system and network administrators, system and data integrators, academic technology gurus, and cybersecurity pros at Davidson College’s Technology & Innovation division.
My academic background is in political science, but I spent enough time working at my college’s help desk and on the residential network support team that IT became a passion. After couple of years in the private sector, I returned to higher education in 2000 and have worked in the sector across three institutions (Harvard, Duke and Davidson) ever since.
My focus on this blog is to discuss on technology and how it intersects with society and the academy. Some of the posts will be a bit more Davidson-specific (and hopefully can give students, faculty and staff a better sense as to where we’re going and why) – others will be more focused on how politics, culture and society impact and are impacted by technology.
In what feels like a past life, I used to blog about neighborhoods, urban development and politics in Durham, N.C. at Bull City Rising, where I tried my hand at social media and podcasts before they were much of a thing.
